BULL RACE IN SUMENEP REGENCY
Bull racing is a traditional culture
and photogenic sport in Madura Island which is very
famous for Madurese people as the owner of the winning
bull will socially be honored. It is highlighted with
various Madurese traditional art performances such
as Sapi Sonok (bull beauty contest), Saronen music,
and mass dance. The races are held in all regencies
of Madura Island (Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and
Sumenep).

SUMEKAR TONG-TONG MUSIC
FESTIVAL
Traditional musical instrument of Madura
made of bamboo, which looks like percussion, is played
together in groups at night. It is usually used for
patrolling or to wake people to have early breakfast
(sahur) in fasting month. Tong-tong music is now combined
with other musical instruments like Klenengan (Javanese
instrument), Tambourine, Saronen (Madurese flute)
etc.
