Kesenian Damarwulan

Tari Damarwulan atau dikenal juga dengan Teater Janger atau Jinggoan, adalah pertunjukan rakyat, sejenis dengan Ketoprak atau Ludruk.

Damarwulan adalah satu konsep kesenian drama tari tradisional dari Banyuwangi, dimana semua tokoh yang terkait dituntut untuk bisa menari dan berperan, dan kesenian ini merupakan akulturasi antara kebudayaan Banyuwangi dan Bali.

Nama Damarwulan diambil dari nama tokoh yang diperankan dalam kesenian ini yaitu Damarwulan atau Minakjinggo. Kesenian ini dimainkan oleh 40-50 pemain yang dibagi dalam 4 kelompok dan menggunakan bahasa Jawa.

Cerita dalam Damarwulan berkisar tentang hubungan antara Minakjingo dengan Damarwulan pada masa Majapahit dan Blambangan. Dialognya berbentuk tembang atau nyanyian. Pengaturan cerita biasanya dilakukan oleh seorang dalang yang fungsi dan kedudukannya mirip dengan dalang dalam pementasan kesenian wayang orang, dengan memberikan gambaran apa yang akan terjadi sebelum adegan dimulai. Pertunjukan biasanya diadakan mulai jam 21.00 dan berakhir pada 04.00 dini hari.
